Our story

Adding some flavour to Barangaroo

Bel & Brio is a unique food and wine-lovers’ emporium designed to suit the needs of the growing local community of Barangaroo. Inspiration for the venue has been taken from traditional cooking styles to create menus that are centred on authenticity, using quality ingredients. This stunningly designed space, modelled on the great food halls of Europe, has something to offer for everyone.

Bar & Dining– open for lunch and dinner, the bar and dining area offers authentic European share plate style meals. The extensive wine list of 400 wines and 20 wines by the glass curated by Jon Osbeiston is complimented by a classic cocktail list. The Bar and Dining space and laneway will seat 240 guests and there is also a mezzanine private dining and events space seating up to 20 people.

Cellars– one of the stand-outs of Bel & Brio is its extensive wine store and wine list, curated by Wine Ambassador Jon Osbeiston. The store features 1900 wines, making it one of the largest independent stores in the city, focusing on Italian, French and Australian wines, from both iconic and new wave wineries.

Marketplace– grocery with everyday pantry staples, household essentials, fresh produce, specialty products and flowers. The Marketplace will feature fresh produce from the Bel & Brio Farm and home kitchen including pasture raised eggs, freshly baked bread, cold pressed juices and homemade ready meals.

Coffee & Co– open for breakfast and throughout the day, serving beans roasted by Will & Co as well as a pastry counter stocked with Italian style pastries and bread baked daily by Bel & Brio’s pastry chefs.

The Farm– despite its urban location, Bel & Brio has a genuine farm to table philosophy at its heart, with plans for the majority of fresh produce used in it’s kitchens to be sourced directly from it’s Central Coast farm. The 20-hectare property, The Farm at Kulnura, is located 70 minutes’ drive north of Sydney near Peats Ridge. The farm is completely chemical free and will be supplying Bel & Brio with a range of seasonal vegetables, with an ambitious planting program scheduled for the changing seasons. Pasture-raised eggs laid by 3000 chickens that roam and forage freely around the farm will be sold in store and will feature on menus throughout the venue.

 

 

The team -at Bel & Brio, share a passion for great food and wine. Executive chefs Andrea Assenza and Vanessa Martin will be heading up the kitchen and bring years of experience in Sydney and abroad.

Wine Ambassador, Jon Osbeiston, one of Australia’s most respected wine experts, brings his encyclopedic knowledge to Bel & Brio, curating the extensive wine list, and more than 1900 wines available in the Cellars, from everyday quaffers to super special drops.

Café maestros Alessandro and Gianni Panetta, bring their barista skills to Coffee & Co which will be open from breakfast and throughout the day.

Executive Chef

Andrea Assenza

Executive Chef, Andrea brings his contemporary style and passion for seasonal produce to Bel & Brio. As a young boy growing up in the small town of Vittoria, Sicily, Andrea helped out in his family restaurant, where he spent most of his youth learning about local produce and traditional cooking methods. So it was inevitable that a life of cooking was about to follow. Andrea’s career has seen him work at Langan’s Brasserie and White’s Gentlemen’s Club in London and OPIA in Hong Kong.

Executive Chef

Vanessa Martin

Australian chef, Vanessa Martin, started her culinary career in 1999. Born into a European family, Vanessa grew up with a passion for cooking inspired by her heritage and encouraged by her Nonna. Vanessa opened her first restaurant, Il Piave in Balmain, at the young age of 24, which received the first of six conservative one chef hat awards after being open for just six months. Vanessa will be working beside Andrea Assenza at Bel & Brio as joint Executive Chef heading up the kitchen brigade.

Wine Ambassador

Jon Osbeiston

Jon Osbeiston is unquestionably one of Australia’s most respected wine experts. Osbeiston’s encyclopaedic knowledge of Australian, French and Italian wines, as well as his skills as a wine buyer, lead to his Ultimo Wine Centre becoming Australia’s pre-eminent independent wine retailer for over a decade. Jon brings his incredible reputation and strong following of wine-lovers to Bel & Brio, and will be curating the wine list for Bar & Dining and the Bel & Brio Cellars.

Alessandro Panetta

Sydney-raised Italian, Alessandro Panetta, grew up immersed in Italian cooking from a young age. In 2014 Alessandro and his brother Gianni, indulged their passion for good food and coffee when they opened Baker Bros in Sydney’s CBD as their first solo venture. This dynamic duo bring a great deal of experience and a love of fine food and coffee to Coffee & Co at Bel & Brio.
