You will surely find yourself in “La Bella Vita”, through authentic Italian cooking styles and flavours, express from regional Italy. On the agenda for the month, we are taking your palate for a tour across four different regions of Italy; namely, Lombardy, Tuscany, Lazio, and Sicily. Most of our chefs have roots in these regions, and they are excited to introduce you to the flavours of their heritage, brought to you with true sentiment, and lots of love!
The Noble Cuisine of Lombardy – 7th and 8th of August
If you’ve ever travelled through Lombardy, you will have noticed the dominant implementation of the colour yellow in their cuisine. This is not a coincidence. It’s a custom that dates back to medieval times when the courts would coat their food with gold before serving it to their guests. Gold was widely believed to be the remedy for illness and promised good health. Food was also prepared in this fashion for aesthetic appeal. As gold became increasingly valuable, the Lombardian sought alternative ways to create the same effect without incurring the cost of gold. The golden hue of saffron risotto is one reminder of this tradition.
